As a queer, neurodiverse female architectural designer, identity is crucial in shaping my design perspective. My unique identity informs how I approach the design process and influences the spaces I create. I believe that architecture has the power to shape society and culture, and as a designer, I strive to create inclusive and welcoming spaces for all individuals, regardless of their gender, sexuality, or neurodiversity. My identity allows me to empathize with marginalized communities and design spaces that meet their needs, while also challenging traditional design conventions. In this way, my identity as a queer, neurodiverse female architectural designer plays a significant role in shaping my work and my contribution to the field.

Ideas.

  • Diverse Peer-Review.

    Diversity allows for a comprehensive evaluation of design and can help to identify potential biases or blind spots that may have been overlooked. This is how hearing diverse critique of my work improved my designs.

  • Mobility As Resistance.

    Mobile architecture is resistant to the status quo because it challenges the traditional notions of fixed and static buildings. It provides an alternative to the dominant architectural paradigm of permanence, rootedness, and monumentality, and instead emphasizes adaptability, mobility, and flexibility.

  • Designing a Better World.

    My story is about taking a stand against mass incarceration by refusing to design prisons and advocating for prison abolition.

  • Neurodiversity Experience.

    Being an architectural designer with ADHD is powerful because it brings a unique perspective to the design process. The hyper-focus and creativity that often come with ADHD can lead to innovative solutions and out-of-the-box thinking, while the need for structure and organization can result in carefully planned and efficient designs.
